The Griffith University Student Law Association prides itself on providing and developing its Legal Skills Competitions. In 2010 this integral element of the GUSLA will be headed up by Alexandra Rofe (VP Education) and Kelly Van Lathum (Competitions Convenor).

What are Legal Skills Competitions?

Legal Skills Competitions are designed to enhance and support the Griffith Law School LLB. These competitions include;

Mooting;

Client Interviewing;

Clayton Utz Open Negotiation; and

Witness Examination.

The Competitions provide participants with a platform to practice and develop skills that are critical to their legal futures and assessable as a part of their LLB.

Why should I participate in Legal Skills Competitions?

Our Legal Skills Competitions are an integral part of your law school experience and will give you a cutting edge when applying for that dream Law job. Participating in competitions is a great way to test and extend your legal knowledge and skills within an interesting, fun and often challenging environment. They are also a great way to prepare for assessment (yes during your LLB you will need these skills for assessment.

When are Competitions held?

Open Competitions (3rd- 5th year students) are held in Semester One. The Winners from these competitions will be given the opportunity to represent the Griffith University Student Law Association and compete at both the QLSA and ALSA Competitions

Junior Competitions (1st and 2nd year students) will be held in Semester 2.

Who can enter?

All Students enrolled at Griffith University are eligible to enter, however that entry is conditional upon the student becoming a member of the GUSLA.

Open Competitions are just that, OPEN. However preference is given to students who are in their latter years of study.
